I spent Saturday in the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary, and was pleased (although not surprised) to see plenty of fledglings / juveniles of a few of our native bird species. In addition to the birds below I also saw a fledgling tui practicing flight, but was unable to get a photo.
Pīwakawaka (NZ fantail) juvenile.
Juvenile ngirungiru (tomtits). First is female (I think), the other is male.
Pīpīwharauroa (shining cuckoo) fledgling about half an hour after leaving its nest. More - much more - about this bird later.
Korimako (bellbird) fluffball. Probably not long out of the nest.
